We had a fantastic turnout to the fair, and one of our most popular attractions was the bread-baking demonstration. Emily Christiansen shared her talents with the crowd, and many of you commented on how much you enjoyed learning from her! Here are the recipes she shared at the fair. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Sprouting
Why Sprout?
It's simple.
It's cheap.
They are delicious.
It increases the nutritional content.
They are easily digestible, thereby increasing the nutrients you receive.
They are one of the highest sources of natural fiber.
They are high in protein and low in calories.
Start with grains. I had: rye, red wheat berries, lentils, chia seeds, and millit.
Measure them and put in containers to soak for 8 hours or overnight.
Leave room for expansion when soaking. Obviously, you don't need anything fancy.
Pour them out into containers that allow them to drain. The boxes are a sprouting kit, so I used sieves. Rinse and drain them 3 times a day.
And in 3 days, they live!
These are some great sprouting books. You can eat sprouts plain or add them to salads, soups, desserts, etc.
ENJOY!

72 Hour Kits
A 72 hour kit is an essential part of emergency preparedness. An individual or family might very well have to survive on their own until they can receive help from relief workers following a natural disaster or other emergency. These kits provide basic essentials for at least 72 hours, serving as a "central depository" in case you need to leave your home quickly.
Below are various links that provide more information regarding 72 hour kits.

Welcome to the Emergency Preparedness Fair Blog!
Check back closer to the time of the fair as
our presenters will be posting helpful preparedness information for you!
Why Emergency
Preparedness?
Remember Nashville’s flood in 2010? What about the 2008 gas shortage with all the
long lines and high prices at the pump?
How about severe thunderstorms, and ah yes, tornadoes. In the last few years Nashville was hit with
each of these situations. Wish we could
say, “been there, done that,” and never worry about facing them again. Alas, we are not immune to emergency
situations, they are part of life on the planet earth. However, we can take a lot of the worry and
stress away by simply preparing. It’s
not hard. It doesn’t take a college
degree or professional experience. It
mostly comes down to some basic planning and preparation-in a nutshell: plan,
prepare, protect.
Have you thought about putting together a 72-hour-kit? It can take up to three days for the Red
Cross to reach people. What will you do
in the mean time?
If our water supply were compromised do you have some
stored?
Most people get pretty hungry just from missing one meal,
what about you? What about your kids? Even if you have food, are you prepared to
cook a meal if the power is out for a long period of time?
Start preparing now by coming to the Emergency Preparedness
Fair. It’s free and will provide you
with all the basic information you need to get started, or add to what you
already have. Do it for your
family. Do it for yourself.
See you there!
